Hi, Iā€™m Mandy.

About me

My name is Mandy Lin. I am a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC). I identify as female, use she/her/hers pronouns, an Asian-American, a child of immigrants, and a first generation student. I am passionate about helping individuals work through their intergenerational trauma, identity conflicts, self-esteem issues, and overall achieve a meaningful and fulfilling life they value. I obtained my dual masters degrees in counseling and mental health services and professional counseling from the University of Pennsylvania in 2019. Born and raised in NYC, I am always looking for recommendations for a good pizza or bagel spot. In my personal life, I enjoy meeting dogs (say hi to your dog for me), crocheting, exploring new places with my partner, and being engrossed in the next thriller novel.

How I practice

My approach is psychodynamic looking back at early development to identify how the learned behaviors and patterns took hold and are now showing up in adulthood. With awareness we can begin to interrupt the unwanted patterns and behaviors and begin to create responses more aligned to the life you want. I utilize values work to further clarify what makes your life fulfilling and meaningful for you, teasing out values that may not be truly yours, such as values society or your family of origin imparted onto you. TL;DR I use the past to inform the present and utilize that awareness to drive actions towards a meaningful future you have identified.

My style is direct in a gentle and compassionate manner. In the beginning I might listen more and take more time to get to know you. As we develop trust and comfort in the therapeutic relationship, I can be more directive and challenging to help you grow in the direction you seek rather than stay in your comfort zone.

Our work ends when you have found the power/clarity you seek and are ready to go live the life you sought therapy for, or due to circumstance.
